
The Home Secretary Priti Patel has announced Police Officer recruitment targets for every police force as part of a three year drive to get 20,000 new officers onto the streets. North Yorkshire is set to get up to 200 more officers. The first phase for North Yorkshire involves the appointment of 58 new officers which is in addition to 50 more officers agreed as part of the local council precept. By April 2021 North Yorkshire will have a total of 1,508 officers along with more PCSOs.
Commenting, Philip Allott the Conservative Party's Police, Fire and Crime Commission Candidate for May 2020 said: "If elected in May 2020 I will push for these additional officers to boost the visibility of policing in the different communities and also use them to arrest drug dealers and clamp down on the perpetrators of petty crimes in the urban and rural parts of North Yorkshire, so we can improve the quality of life for everyone."
